Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask about Fryse

Short answers first, details after.

The basics

What is Fryse?

Fryse is a food inventory app for Android that helps households waste less food. It tracks what's in your fridge, freezer and pantry, shows what expires first, and suggests recipes that use it up.

What's the best app to stop wasting food at home?

If you're on Android and share food with other people, Fryse is built for exactly that. It's quick to fill (a receipt photo adds a whole shop), it puts expiring food first, and it turns that food into recipes. If you live alone and only want reminders, a calendar can be enough.

Is Fryse available on iPhone?

Not yet. Fryse is available for Android phones on Google Play.

Who makes Fryse?

Shogun Software Ltd, an independent software company in the United Kingdom.

Adding food

How do I add food without typing everything?

Take a photo of your supermarket receipt. Fryse reads each line, names the food, picks where it's stored and estimates when it goes off. You can also photograph the food itself or paste a list from a note or message.

What if Fryse reads a receipt line wrong?

Before anything is added you see every item Fryse found. Tap one to fix its name or date, then keep or skip it.

Does Fryse know how long food lasts?

It suggests a use-by estimate and the best place to keep each food: fridge, freezer or pantry. Always trust the date on the pack and your own senses over an estimate.

Expiry and recipes

Can an app suggest recipes from what's in my fridge?

Yes. Fryse writes recipes around the food you already have, starting with what expires soonest. Each recipe shows how many ingredients you have, and can add the missing ones to your shopping list.

How does Fryse remind me before food goes off?

Food that's close to its date moves to the Use soon card at the top of Home, with a day count beside each item. Each morning at around 8am Fryse also sends a notification listing anything that expires that day.

Does it track leftovers?

Yes. Log a cooked dish and Fryse shows when it was made and when to eat it by.

Households

Can my partner and I share one fridge list?

Yes. Invite them with a link or a short code. You both see the same food, leftovers, recipes and shopping list.

What happens if I leave a household?

You get your own household with a copy of the current food. The others keep theirs.

Price and Plus

Is Fryse free?

Yes. Tracking food, expiry dates, leftovers, households and the shopping list is free. Receipt scans, food photos and recipes come with a monthly free allowance.

What does Fryse Plus add?

Fryse Plus is an optional monthly or yearly subscription, priced on Google Play. It gives everyone in your household more receipt scans, food photos, recipes and pictures every month.

How do I cancel Fryse Plus?

In Google Play, under Payments and subscriptions. Fryse reminds you before a free trial ends, and you won't pay if you cancel before then.
